 Good leather case with functioning smart features Jun 09, 2011

I originally purchased a red AYL Yoobao case, but the "smart features" to turn on and off the iPad 2 when the cover is opened and closed did not work well. Additionally, the cover had no effective retention mechanism and would flap about freely. Consequently, I returned the case.
I then purchased the most popular iPad 2 case on Amazon right now, the Bear Motion leather folio. Its smart features worked well, but were implemented in such a way as to render the Ipad 2's internal compass inoperable. Compass functionality is essential for several popular iPad programs, so this is a serious flaw.

I then purchased the Acase leather portfolio style iPad 2 case which advertised that it fixed all of the problems that I encountered with the AYL Yoobao and Bear Motion cases.
The Acase product is strikingly similar to the Yoobao case and might be manufactured by the same Chinese company. The Acase's exterior is made of soft leather that is on par with the Bear Motion's and slightly better than the leather my AYL Yoobao case had. The interior of the case is soft cloth that is somewhat nicer than the material in the Yoobao case. The Acase product came packaged well, unlike the AYL Yoobao.
Also unlike the AYL Yoobao case, the smart features work properly and, again unlike the AYL Yoobao case, embedded magnetic clasps secure the cover closed well enough that the cover does not flap around during normal handling.
Like the Yoobao but unlike the Bear Motion, the Acase product has a pleasant leather smell like a baseball glove.
The Acase folio interferes with the iPad 2's compass if the cover is folded back against the iPad 2, but this probably can't be avoided given the cover's magnetic clasps. However, the case does not appear to significantly impact compass functionality if the case is opened flat so that the cover is away from the iPad's body.
The case material that partially covers the bezel is thick and pokes out a little. This has subsided as the case stretched with use after a day, but is still a little unsightly [UPDATE: after a week the material still pokes out but is not very noticeable]. The case fit is very tight, but seems to be loosening up. The iPad 2 has already shifted in the case enough to block the camera opening so I had to reposition it; a patch of velcro on the retention flap would ensure a more secure position for the iPad [UPDATE: after a week the Ipad 2 has not shifted again so the velcro patch might not be needed]. Some of the stitching around the bezel material is coarse and somewhat prickly.
The Acase folio is very trim and preserves the svelte lines of the iPad 2. Although it is not padded, it covers and protects the iPad 2 very well; still, if you think you need a case that offers drop protection, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. There is plenty of room around the screen, so the Acase will never get in your way, unlike the Bear Motion case. The buttons and cameras are exposed well. The case is very attractive and professional looking.
The Acase folio is similar in quality to the AYL Yoobao and Bear Motion leather cases, but it surpasses both because it does not have the serious flaws of either.
With its minor drawbacks, I'd give the product 4.5 stars, but since that rating is not available, I'll round up to 5 stars.
I have carefully studied many iPad 2 cases and, at the current time, the Acase leather folio is probably the best overall iPad 2 case under fifty dollars. At its current price (under $25 shipped), it's easily the best deal in iPad 2 cases.

I did a lot of research on iPad cases before picking this Acase EZ Carry. I wanted a case that would:
Cover all edges of the iPad to avoid damage
NO Velcro out of risk of scratching the screen
Stay closed while carrying
Top able to flip open 100% while using iPad
As thin as possible
I must say- EVERY SINGLE one of these items were covered by this case. Honestly, I couldn't ask for anything better. The case fits the iPad perfectly with exact cut outs and the quality of the leather holds up great. Best of all- it PROTECTS the iPad! No edges are exposed which was a problem with other cases- only the corners were covered. I would definitely recommend this case- can't beat the product and can't beat the price!

Protection for the new "toy" Jul 23, 2011

Did a lot of research on cases for the iPad2 and read numerous on-line reviews. Originally purchased the BUILT case which worked fine while at home (we have a cat that likes to plop himself down on anything new) but wanted something more substantial, especially after seeing my son DROP his brand-new, less-than-three-week old, unprotected Samsung Galaxy (OUCH). The ACASE fit like a glove. I"m not one to bemoan exact location of cut-outs for camera lens and other switches - I just wanted something to really protect this investment when I plop this into my purse with all the junk I have to tote around and this WORKS. No exposed edges, no fuss. Highly recommend this product for its low-key looks and durability.

This is a very nice iPad cover, works alot like Apples in that it also doubles as s stand but is less espensive than Apples. I would recommend this item to a friend.

Sometimes boring is better. You order a product and it actually does what it says it will do. The iPad2 fits perfectly, The front cover has a crease like Apple's cover that turns the iPad on when flapped back. The holes for all the inputs like headphones and power are all in the right place. Who knew? Nothing disappointing. I couldn't be happier!
